How to reccongnize correct door orientation

Look at the door from the side it opens to: this is the best way to determine the door orientation.

Left-Hand Door

Hinges are on the left side, handle on the right.

The door is easier to open with the left hand.

Right-Hand Door

Hinges are on the right side, handle on the left.

The door is easier to open with the right hand.

This method for determining door orientation applies to standard rebated doors and non-rebated doors and is universally applicable for all door manufacturers.

Note on reverse doors:

At SEPOS, we determine whether reverse doors are left or right using the same rule as for rebated doors (see above).

However, note that reverse doors open in the opposite direction compared to other door opening methods.

The method of determining reverse doors may also vary depending on the door retailer.

TIP - When selecting door orientation, keep in mind:

  • Doors should open in a way that allows you to see most of the room upon entry.
  • Light switches should be placed on the handle side, so you don’t have to walk around an open door to turn on the light.
  • Open doors should not hit surrounding furniture, such as wardrobes, shower enclosures, or other doors.
